Overview
Sometimes a single CATEGORY just isn’t enough.
- You may have too many MENU ITEMS for a single CATEGORY.
- You may want to group similar MENU ITEMS into more manageable sub groups.
- You may want to report on different areas of your business as though they were separate Channels of Trade ( COT )
The reasons are endless and varied.
OscarPOS Cloud makes this very easy for you to achieve with SUB-CATEGORIES aka MENU-GROUPS.
Enable Menu Groups in each POS APP
On each POS APP, navigate to menu / General Settings / Enable Menu Groups
Put a tick in the box to turn this on.

Create Your Top Level Menu Categories
Refer to KB Article Categories : View / Create / Delete
Only thing different is to leave ROOT CATEGORY empty.

Create Your Menu Sub Categories
Most of the processes relating to Menu Categories will apply here.
Only difference is to change the Root Category to the parent.
Parent, child, top, sub …. A lot of terms are interchangeable 🙂

View Your Handy Work
Navigate to BOM / Items List / Categories List.
The default view is to show TOP LEVEL as collapsed.
When you click on the <+> sign, one ( or all ) will show as expanded.

Add / Move Menu Items to a Sub Category
The process is the same as used to ADD MENU ITEMS, except you choose the SUB-CATEGORY.

POS APP Result
You can have two very different layouts depending on how you set “Use Menu Groups”.
Both have pros & cons.
Play with the option and see which works better for your COT.
